Jewish home honors Bal Harbour residentNathan Vlock of Bal Harbour was recently honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Miami Jewish Home & Hospital for the Aged. The Men's Club -- which sponsors the award -- recognized Vlock for his dedication to the residents at the home. Vlock also serves as vice president for the club.
RELIGION NOTESSt. Basil Catholic Church: A special liturgy will be celebrated at the church, 1475 NE 199th St., at 10 a.m. Saturday. That's also the day commemorating the feast of St. Cyril and Methodius, Apostles of the Slavs and co-patrons of Europe.On May 19, the Sweet Adelines Chorus will perform a spring concert at the church. The event will start at 1:30 p.m. Donations of $8 will benefit the church. Call 651-0991 for more info. B'nai B'rith Simcha-Torah Unit: A free breakfast meeting will be held at 10 a.m. May 19 at the Social Hall of the Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center, 20400 NE 30th Ave. Also, Cantor Steven Texon, will perform -- along with a speech by Israel Chairperson Carole Popkave, who will report on her participation in the ``March of the Living'' to Poland. First Christian Church of North Dade: Line dancing will continue to be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. every Saturday at the church, 175 NW 128th St. The cost is $4 per session. All ages and beginners are welcome. English classes for nonnative speakers meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Students must register ahead of time. The classes are certified by Dade County Public Schools through the North Miami Adult Education Center. Call 681-6625 any time. Also, the church's weekly rummage sale will continue to run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Temple Sinai of North Dade: The adult choir will give its final performance at the Sabbath service. The event will be held at 8 p.m. Friday at the temple, 18801 NE 22nd Ave., in North Miami Beach. Also, longtime member Dora Gaba will celebrate her 92nd birthday with the congregation and will receive a special birthday blessing.
