  • WHAT: A PLANNED DEVELOPMENT OF 6,000 HOMES, A MAIN SHOPPING STREET, AN OFFICE/INDUSTRIAL PARK AND A UNIVERSITY BRANCH.

  • Where: Jupiter.

  • Size: Abacoa covers 2,050 acres, more than three square miles, roughly the size of Wilton Manors.

  • Why: The intent is a town design that fosters community.

  • Prices: Single-family homes will cost between $120,000 and $300,000; a townhome between $80,000 and $140,000. Apartments will rent from $300 to $600.

  • Schools: There are three: two elementary schools and one middle school. Florida Atlantic University will build a satellite campus there.

  • When: First houses complete by spring 1997. Abacoa is slated for completion in 2015.
